People with slightest mental disorder were deemed Lunatics in late 1800s and early 1900s all over the world. This resulted in the need to build a lot of mental asylums to accommodate all the 'so called Lunatics' which was the reason why this mental hospital was built in the year 1863. It housed thousands of insane people until 1993. Infact the facility had a lot of female patients till 2001 after which the facility was shut down due to nearby expansion.
