Good news for 76ers fans.
After a slight scare that saw Joel Embiid returning to
wearing a protective walking boot earlier in the week due to some soreness, it
seems that Sixers fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
Embiid flew out to Los Angeles on Tuesday for a scheduled
check-up with his doctor, who had some good news for Embiid and his
Philadelphia franchise.
Prior to the Sixers contest against the Bulls on Wednesday
night head coach Brett Brown informed media members that everything is on track
regarding Joel’s recovery.
“It’s healing at the rate we expected,” Brown stated, before
revealing that Embiid was given approval to actually up his workouts.
“The doctors have increased the minutes that we can keep him
on the floor to 60. The bottom line is that he’s come back from Los Angeles
with the news that we all expected.”

Embiid was back out on the floor at the Wells Fargo Center
prior to the game on Wednesday, going through his usual pregame routine;
practicing footwork and shooting jump shots, walking boot gone.
Going forward, the team is going to put a plan in place for
Embiid’s continuing recovery.
“It’ll be
1-on-0 for now,” Brett Brown said of Embiid’s workouts.
“The next stage after
1-on-0 will be playing against another body. We’ve got to be smart about trying
to get his weight down and his conditioning up. There will be a plan put in
place for him that will be organized with [head athletic trainer Kevin
Johnson], [assistant coach] Billy Lange, and myself.”
Embiid remains
unavailable for game action, and likely won’t suit up for the Sixers this
season, but the news of positive progress, rather than a serious setback, is
great for the Sixers.
